Barça Women and GLS Spain have signed a global sponsorship agreement which will see the transport logistics company become an official partner of the team for the next three seasons.
The collaboration will contribute to the growth of women’s football at Barça, which ended last season with the domestic treble of winning the league, the Super Cup and the Copa de la Reina.
As a leader in international packaging services, GLS will look to raise its profile globally by tapping into the more than five million social media followers on the women’s team accounts.
The two organisations celebrated the agreement in an event at the VIP box at the Estadi Johan Cruyff with president Joan Laporta and Xavier Puig, director responsible for women’s football, representing FC Barcelona. On behalf of GLS, present were Luis Doncel, the General Manager of GLS Iberia and Roberto Martínez, Finance Director.
The collaboration has been possible with the shared values of effort and team work, and the common desire to keep supporting societal change and breaking down stereotypes through sport. In that sense, Barça Women have become a reference point both on and off the field thanks to their style of play and the values they represent, breaking down prejudice about women in sport and allowing their players to inspire and be a role model for future generations.
This partnership will help to consolidate Barça Women as a project in which the partners, such as GLS, can be confident in gaining recognition in their markets of interest, thanks to the impact of the team both at a local and international level.
“We share FC Barcelona’s support and strong links to women’s sport,” GLS Iberia General Manager Luis Doncel said in a statement.
“In essence, its team of players is an example of dedication, the desire to excel and teamwork, values that also represent us as a company.”
Barcelona have been active in the market for commercial deals solely for their powerhouse women’s team, with GLS joining Heura foods as a new dedicated partner.
