With the Liberty A-League season underway and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup now part of the history books, the timing couldn’t be more ideal for the introduction of this exciting program as Football Australia and Football West join forces to launch a ground-breaking initiative aimed at empowering female football players.
The Women in Football Leadership Program consists of a five-week online course followed by a two-day in-person workshop at Perth’s iconic Optus Stadium on the weekend of October 29. This concludes with an exciting opportunity to watch the CommBank Matildas play the Philippines at the same venue.
This initiative will be for all women over the age of 18 who are involved in football in various capacities, including volunteers, football media, coaches, referees, players, board members, paid employees, and those aspiring to work in the sport.
The Women in Football Leadership Programme plays a pivotal role in addressing gender disparities within the football community. It underscores the importance of embracing diverse voices and perspectives to influence the sport’s trajectory positively.
This endeavour is particularly significant when given the historically limited opportunities for women to assume leadership roles in the traditionally male-dominated landscape of football.
