Football SA confirms Two New Teams for HPG Homes State League 2

Football South Australia has confirmed the inclusion of Para Hills East SC and Sturt Marion Thunder SC in the HPG Homes State League 2 competition from the 2027 season, following approval by the Football SA Board this week.

The announcement continues the planned expansion of State League 2 into a North and South conference system, each comprising twelve teams. This season already welcomed Angle Vale SC, Barossa United, Elizabeth Downs and Plympton Bulldogs into the competition, with both new clubs having established themselves early in the 2026 campaign. With Para Hills East and Sturt Marion Thunder now confirmed, two positions remain available for the 2027 intake.

Football SA General Manager of Football Operations George Georganas said the expansion reflected the strength of clubs across the state ready to take the next step into semi-professional football.

“The inclusion of Para Hills East SC and Sturt Marion Thunder SC is another important milestone in that journey and reflects the strength of clubs seeking to take the next step into semi-professional senior football, while also providing a complete pathway for junior players to progress into the elite levels of the game,” Georganas said.

Para Hills East SC Chairman Aaron Smith said the club was eager to bring its culture to a wider football community, while Sturt Marion Thunder SC Chairman Binny Moon described the confirmation as an important step in building a sustainable and respected club within the Football SA system.

The expansion provides aspiring clubs with a structured pathway into the state’s semi-professional environment while strengthening junior development pipelines at community level.

Manchester City and Charlotte Soccer Academy join forces on youth development

Manchester City has announced a new youth soccer collaboration with Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA) and PUMA. The partnership will bring Manchester City’s coaching methodology into CSA’s daily program.

Two full-time Manchester City coaches will relocate to Charlotte, and they will work alongside CSA coaches, players and club leaders. There will also be opportunities for Charlotte’s young players to move to Manchester.

Focus on young players

The main focus will be CSA’s Foundation Phase. That covers players aged 10 to 12, helping them create a foundation.

City coaches will introduce the club’s Play Model and development approach. The sessions will focus on technical skills and decision-making.

They will also help players build a positive relationship with the game. The program will extend across CSA’s wider U9-U12 competitive pathway.

Coaches will benefit too

The collaboration goes beyond player development. Manchester City staff will support CSA coaches throughout the club.

They will help with curriculum planning and coaching development.  The teams will also share best practices that could strengthen CSA’s wider player development pathway.

A pathway to Manchester

CSA players in the program will also have the chance to travel to Manchester each year.

The trips will include competitive matches and access to the Manchester City Academy. The partnership will give young players a direct connection to Manchester City’s football environment.

PUMA backs the project

PUMA is supporting the collaboration as a long-term partner of Manchester City and CSA. CSA has been a PUMA King Club since 2019.

The project brings the three organisations together around youth development. Players, parents and coaches will see the partnership in action from the 2026-27 season, with Manchester City coaches working on the field in Charlotte every day.

The move also marks another step in City’s growing youth soccer presence in the United States.

GIOCA and Avondale FC partner to honour club’s Italian heritage

In an announcement made via social media this week, GIOCA revealed Avondale FC as its latest club partner.

Shared heritage, common goals

Both GIOCA and Avondale share Italian identity and heritage, with the NPL Victoria side embracing its Italian roots since its beginnings in 1984.

Founded by Italian immigrants, Avondale FC (then known as “Keilor I.C.K.A.”) became a cornerstone of the Avondale community following a relocation in 1999.

And now, over 40 years since its founding, Avondale will honour its past with a partnership built for the future.

Teaming up with GIOCA – a brand established by footballers, for footballers – kicks off an alliance which combines a respect for history while bringing clubs and kits into the modern game.

“We’re excited to partner with Avondale FC to design, develop and deliver their Teamwear as they prepare for the upcoming Australian Championship and the 2027 NPL Victoria season,” GIOCA said via social media.

“A powerhouse club with a proud Italian heritage, this partnership hits close to home.”

“It was only fitting that we launched it surrounded by people, culture and traditions that connects us to our heritage.”

Announcing a special type of Teamwear

The shirts which represent the clubs we love all hold a deep history. They connect us to a team’s beginnings and the values which brought them to where they are today.

Therefore, establishing a kit designed and developed by both GIOCA and Avondale demands respect for the shared Italian culture underpinning both organisations.

In a unique photoshoot to promote the new kit release, players from both the men’s and women’s team were captured not in the glitz and glamour of the pitch, but in the ordinary settings which mean the most to the community.

Photos showed players in a garden enjoying a game of ‘scopa’, as well as in a bar alongside coffees and special editions of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

It is partnerships such as this which truly capture the attention of fans and players alike. The creative announcement reflects an important part of the club’s culture, and demonstrates that history and the future are not so distant after all.
