Real Madrid is connecting with Saudi Arabia Investment Bank (SAIB) with a sponsorship to drive value to both organisations.
The deal has assisted Madrid to enhance its supporter base in the Middle-East, where it already benefits from a partnership with Dubai-based airline, Emirates.
SAIB wants to offer its customer base a unique banking experience that will connect them with one of football’s greatest ever clubs.
Furthermore, SAIB will utilise the club for hosting events, offering promotions, and creating digital content with Real Madrid.
Madrid have emphasised through various media channels that the deal is exclusively sponsorship related and not akin to the purchase of English club Newcastle United by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) in 2021.
The club’s director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueño, was excited by the partnership when confirmed.
“It will help us to grow as a club and strengthen the relationship with all of our fans in Saudi Arabia, a country which is undergoing tremendous expansion in football terms,” Butragueño stated via press release.
“We believe it comes at the perfect time for us, so we’re really pleased and hope this alliance can last for many years.”
In the short term, the deal provides an economic boost to the Spanish club, however, it signifies another indelible mark being made on the football industry by Saudi Arabia.
In addition to its involvement in football ownership and investment, the Middle-Eastern country has rebranded its own national league (of which SAIB is a major sponsor) and is attracting elite players and spectators across the globe.
The country has also hosted various international football events and recently ran unopposed in bidding to host the 2034 Men’s FIFA World Cup.
Whilst its operations in football have come under much public scrutiny, it is clear that the nation is serious about investing in football, as its entities continue to penetrate the football market.
The hope is that partnerships like that of Real Madrid and SAIB will have a universal, positive impact on the sport.
