LaLiga will be the centre of attention when Netflix produces the first sports series in Spain – currently in the phase of pre-production – as the streaming media company will focus on the 2023-2024 domestic competition which will launch worldwide next year.
The world’s leading streaming service has a growing list of sports programming such as Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Break Point. The LaLiga series will take an insight look at everything that occurs in the Professional Football League for the kind of scenes that fans wouldn’t normally see and know about, as well as the more personal narratives of one of the most watched leagues in the world.
Executive Director of LaLiga Oscar Mayo said via press release:
“For LaLiga, to be the star of Netflix’s first sports series in Spain is a unique opportunity to take our football beyond the fans, to share with the world the excitement of the sport we love, and the chance for all our fans to see LaLiga from a totally different angle.”
Netflix Director Alvaro Diaz added via press release:
“At Netflix, we have always been committed to bringing must-watch series and films to our members around the world, we are very proud and excited to share this project with LaLiga, which is an unprecedented opportunity to experience the excitement of one of the most exciting sporting competitions on the planet first-hand.”
With LaLiga also linking up with Banijay Iberia to launch LaLiga Studios, a newly discovered sports-related content production company, it will only further advance the exposure of the competition.
LaLiga Studios will be putting together audio-visual content for LaLiga, clubs, sponsors as well as broadcasters teaming up with international platforms and also with brands in the development, production, and distribution of entertainment, documentary, fiction and animation content.
