SL Benfica and FC Tokyo confirmed a strategic technical partnership aimed at advancing youth football development in Japan.
United by a commitment to training excellence, the partnership seeks to cultivate the next generation of football talent through the exchange of best practices, expertise, and resources between the two clubs.
The collaboration introduces a robust technical exchange program, leveraging the expertise of Benfica’s prestigious academy, the Benfica Campus, to support FC Tokyo in solidifying its role as a leading development club in Japan.
Renowned for its player-focused approach and talent development, Benfica’s academy serves as the foundation for this alliance, which seeks to expand opportunities for discovering and nurturing talent in Japan while fostering exchanges for young FC Tokyo players between Japan and Portugal.
SL Benfica’s Global Expansion Coordinator, Miguel Reis highlighted the shared values and objectives that unite the two clubs.
“FC Tokyo is a historic club, with ambition, vision and excellent organisation at the youth development level, despite our geographical distance, I think both clubs have a lot in common, as we both consider youth development to be a priority,” he said via press release.
CEO of FC Tokyo, Shigeya Kawagishi shared his excitement about the new partnership and the opportunities it presents.
“By partnering with SL Benfica, a strong team in Europe with an excellent reputation for player development and scouting, we will be able to collaborate in the strengthening department and exchange personnel at the academy,” he said via press release.
“All J-League clubs are investing in their academies. In this context, we believe that this partnership will provide quality career options for our academy players. This will be of great benefit to our current players and will also contribute to the clubs’ future scouting and recruiting activities for their academies.
“Through the exchange of knowledge and collaboration between the two clubs in player development, FC Tokyo hopes to develop not only the academy but also the club as a whole.”
Since its inception in September 2007, Benfica Campus has produced some of the most prominent talents in European football including Ruben Dias, Jan Oblak and so many more.
