The ACT Government confirmed over $4 million in grant funding are now available for Canberra community sporting organisations to claim through the 2026 Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme.
The scheme is made up of two programs, the Community Sports Facilities Program and the Club Enhancement Program, both made to support sport, recreation and community organisations in developing new and existing facilities, programs, and initiatives which enhance sporting participation.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry stated the election commitment to inject $1 million into the scheme plays a key role in strengthening and supporting local sport in the ACT.
“Community sport is the heartbeat of Canberra, and these grants empower local clubs to create welcoming environments where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy all the benefits sport can offer,” she said via press release.
“This investment is about more than just turf, bricks and mortar. It’s about building stronger, healthier communities.
“By supporting inclusive and sustainable spaces for sport and recreation, we’re ensuring every Canberran has the opportunity to stay active and connected.”
Capital Football encouraged local clubs to apply for the Club Enhancement Program, which is designed to develop services and programs by purchasing equipment, training and improvements to increase a club’s capability, capacity and accessibility.
The program allows clubs to claim grants up to $20,000, while the Community Sport Facilities Program delivers up to $1 million annually to build or upgrade facilities in the local area.
The 2026 Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme funding was boosted by the 2025–26 ACT Budget which aims to support new and expanded sports facilities.
Applications are currently open to all ACT-based sporting clubs and will close on 17 October 2025.
