FC Barcelona has received final clearances for its Spotify Camp Nou renovation, with Barcelona City Council granting the major licence that would allow the LaLiga football club to finish renovating work at the renowned arena.
The permit allows Barcelona to begin rebuilding work above and below ground as soon as possible, after the club began destroying the old venue’s stands at the conclusion of last season.
The club now intends to proceed as planned, with the major part of the project beginning with the foundations and a new third tier, which will feature hospitality facilities, during the current 2023-24 season. The club presented their hospitality strategy for the Camp Nou earlier this month, with Legends International collaborating on the package.
In the next months, there are also plans to construct an underground parking garage and a new exhibition area. Meanwhile, transportation infrastructure enhancements have already been completed on one neighbouring route, with comparable work scheduled to begin soon on three more.
Barcelona stated that since a meeting in May 2021, the club and city government have been in frequent contact. Following a second meeting in April 2022, the Barcelona project team revised some areas of the designs, especially those related to sustainability and accessibility.
The club will add 18,000 square metres of solar panels on the roof to provide the electricity needed to power the stadium lights and the equivalent of 600 residences on matchdays. The initiative is also looking into methods to minimise heating and cooling expenses by storing green energy beneath the ground and recycling rainwater from the roof.
Work on the Camp Nou renovation formally began in May, and Barcelona has now unveiled a design to “revolutionise” the stadium’s hospitality experience. The club stated that VIP seating and sponsorship money will be the club’s two primary sources of revenue for the stadium renovation.
