Manchester City has strengthened its long-standing relationship with Puma, announcing a renewed partnership that is set to become the most lucrative kit sponsorship in British football history.
While financial details were not disclosed in the official statement, multiple reliable reports suggest the new long-term agreement is valued at AUD $2.06 billion AUD (£1 billion) and will run through to at least 2035.
This equates to an estimated $206 million AUD (£100 million) per year, surpassing both City’s previous Puma deal worth AUD $134 million (£65 million) annually and Manchester United’s AUD $185.65 million (£90 million) a-year arrangement with Adidas.
The partnership, which began in the 2019/20 season, has coincided with a period of unprecedented success for Manchester City, both on and off the field.
Puma has capitalised on the club’s growing global profile to promote its high-performance products, while Manchester City has cemented its status as one of football’s most recognisable and marketable brands worldwide.
Commercially, Puma and Manchester City have set new club sales global records over the years and co-created iconic, best-selling kits such as the 2022/23 Colin Bell inspired home shirt worn during the treble-winning season.
Ferran Soriano, Chief Executive Officer of City Football Group spoke very positively about the relationship between the two parties.
“We joined forces with PUMA with the ambition to challenge ourselves and go beyond the expectations. We have achieved this and more over the last six seasons,” said Soriano in a press release.
“PUMA have seamlessly integrated into our organisation, and we’ve enjoyed many historic moments together, engaging fans globally. Today’s renewal and extension solidifies our relationship and projects it to an even brighter future.”
PUMA Chief Executive Officer Arthur Hoeld kept his statement short but similarly praised the long-standing relationship.
“PUMA’s partnership with Manchester City has been a great success both on and off the pitch,” he said in a press release.
“Trophies, a perfect stage for our performance products and commercial success were exceptional.”
This landmark agreement demonstrates the commercial strength of Manchester City and Puma’s shared vision for growth in the global football market.
