In preparation for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, the Victorian State Government recently announced that infrastructure and facilities at AAMI Park have been completed.
This $25 million investment is part of the government’s Local Jobs First initiative and the upgrades have supported more than 130 full-time jobs for local workers, including trainees and apprentices.
The improvements and developments for AAMI Park are expected to improve the overall experience for both players and spectators. The stadium will have 205 square metres of new LED screens across two curved videoboards, which is one of the most notable upgrades.
Quote attributed to Victorian Government Treasurer, Tim Pallas:
“This project was critical in ensuring Victoria played a key role in delivering the Women’s World Cup and it will also provide a better experience for fans and athletes for years to come.”
It will also enable bigger and better light sequences during matches, improving the viewing experience for fans and make the event more immersive for those in attendance.
Quote attributed to Victorian Government, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos:
“This upgrade includes state-of-the-art videoboards, new LED lighting and improved player recovery facilities – Victoria is staying ahead of the game by future proofing our infrastructure to host the world’s biggest events.”
AAMI Park will have 5G services and Wi-Fi improvements in addition to the LED screens. Fans will be able to do both, stay in touch, and access crucial game information while also sharing their experiences on social media.
AAMI Park will continue to be at the forefront of contemporary stadiums thanks to the addition of these services, which reflect the growing significance of technology in sports. There will also be ice baths and gender-neutral bathrooms for locker rooms as part of the works, which is a significant improvement.
Quote attributed to Victorian Government, Minister for Industry and Innovation Ben Carroll:
“We’re backing local jobs by making sure major Victorian businesses have the best chance to get work on our major projects, including this fantastic upgrade of AAMI Park in time for the Women’s World Cup.”
Overall, the $25 million investment in AAMI Park is an important step towards equipping the stadium with cutting-edge technology and amenities. This will not only enhance the overall enjoyment of the players and fans, but it will also support regional businesses and provide employment opportunities for Victorians.
