Football NSW’s investment into coaching development has continued, with 17 ‘C’ Licence Coaching Courses delivered across eight associations and 235 participants partaking in 2022.

Along with four courses being administered at Football NSW headquarters, there have also been ‘C’ Licence Coaching Courses featured at the Northern Suburbs FA, North West Sydney FA, Blacktown District Soccer FA, Hills FA, Manly Warringah FA, Macarthur FA, Southern Districts Soccer FA as well as a joint effort involving Canterbury District Soccer FA, Football St George and Eastern Suburbs FA.

Regional ‘C’ Licence Courses have also taken shape in Albury/Wodonga, Bathurst, and the Southern Highlands while a Level 1 Goalkeeper Course has also taken shape.

Football NSW Technical Director Warren Grieve reaffirmed his intentions that more coaching courses delivered across the state will in turn see more quality coaches coming through the ranks.

“During a period that has presented significant challenges, it has been incredibly pleasing to be able to maintain our full commitment toward Coach Development,” he said via Football NSW.

“Having delivered 17 courses across Metropolitan and Regional NSW in such a short space of time demonstrates how our team have not only been flexible and adaptable to varying environments, but they have also shown commitment and professionalism to the overall process.

“We must also express our sincere thanks to the Member Associations, Regional Branches and the exceptional staff they’ve all had at their disposal which has greatly assisted to expertly deliver each of these courses.

“The Coach Development team has and will continue to grow providing more opportunities for aspiring coaches across the state.

“It’s great to see that our current educators provide quality and dedicated support and mentorship which in turn encourages a growth mindset of how we want to develop the next generation of potential coaches.”

Wellington Phoenix Sign GPS Performance Deal with STATSports

Wellington Phoenix have announced their new partnership with STATSports who has joined the club as its official GPS athlete performance tracking partner.

STATSports, which is the global leader in athlete monitoring and performance analysis, is also a trusted partner of English Premier League clubs such as Liverpool FC, as well as the national teams for England and Portugal.

Sean O’Connor, STATSports co-founder, has announced his company’s excitement for the partnership.

“We’re delighted to partner with the Wellington Phoenix and support their commitment to developing players at every level of the club,” said O’Connor.

“This partnership is a clear statement of intent about how they operate as a club – forward thinking and dedicated to giving their players the best chance to succeed.

“By providing performance technology trusted by the world’s top teams, the Phoenix will continue to push standards on and off the pitch.”

Weijie Lim, head physical performance scientist at the Wellington Phoenix said that STATSports had quickly become essential to the club’s performance program.

“Since integrating STATSports into our training and match-day environment we’ve seen an improvement in how we monitor and manage player performance.” Lim stated.

“All Phoenix teams from the A-Leagues through to the academy are using the same tracking system to monitor and manage player loads.

Lim also explained that this was the first time in the club’s history for this to occur.

“The real time data allows us to track player loading, distance covered, and high intensity efforts with extensive accuracy,” he said.

“This enables us to consolidate all GPS data across the Phoenix into a single centralised system.”

With the new ability to track player’s performance during training and match days, this will mean that the club will receive insights on key areas of improvement. The new partnership may be the key to the club moving up from its 11th place finish in the 2024/25 season.

Glen Park Upgrade Boosts Equality at Boomers FC

The Boomers Football Club from the Albury Wodonga Football Association (AWFA) have presented new upgraded facilities at their home of Glen Park. This marks a major milestone in the inclusivity at the club, with the new space highlighting the club’s commitment and responsibility to encouraging change and equality.

Over the past five years, the girls program at the club has skyrocketed, with now more than 100 girls and women registered to play at the club. Outside of the on-field progress, off the field, the club now invites female coaches, referees and volunteers.

Before the recent upgrade, the facilities at the club were not up to standard, as the club lacked female amenities, and held on to outdated club rooms. With the new renovations, the club now has two new change rooms, with specific male and female toilets and showers, as well as three publicly accessible toilets.

Boomers Football Club Vice President, Anna Griffith spoke about the club’s contribution to equality in development of their kids.

“Equal participation in our club goes beyond having women’s and girls’ teams,” Griffith said in a press release.

“Our club is equally invested in the development of boys and girls, equally invested in coaching for men and women and helping our whole club community enjoy the game.”

The upgrade was something that Griffith said strongly reflected the culture and values that the club had been working to build for years.

Infrastructure and Club Development Coordinator for Football NSW, Lachlan Mainwaring believes that the Glen Park project is an insight into how investment in regional clubs can help to grow women’s and girls’ football.

“Boomers FC have shown what’s possible when a club leads with equality at the centre of its culture.” said Mainwaring in a press release.

The Boomers Football Club is a leading example of how positive change and development can be in a football club, as it is likely the club will grow even further from now on.
