Canterbury District Soccer Football Association side Ashfield Pirates Football Club are set to welcome a $300,000 upgrade to their home ground, Hammond Park, following Labor’s win at the 2022 Federal Election.
Labor candidate Sally Sitou won the key inner-west Sydney seat of Reid, as the Labor Party made an election commitment to the Ashfield Pirates FC and their members of $300,000 to deliver an equaliser at Hammond Park.
Hammond Park is currently not a female friendly venue much like the 76% of other football venues across NSW.
Football Australia’s #Equaliser campaign aims to ensure that all football facilities are to be the same, promoting equivalent services and access for everyone.
The funding will be put towards upgrading the current change rooms and amenities to make them female friendly, secure, and safe to use for everyone.
This funding will help the club leverage further funding to achieve the required $2.8 million over the next three years to make further identified upgrades at Hammond Park.
With less than 450 days till the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, funding for female friendly facilities is vital to ensure that football can keep up with the expected demand of football.
Facility enhancements such as this equaliser at Hammond Park across NSW and Australia will enable the largest participated sport in Australia to produce the future Matilda’s that our young girls aspire to.
