Inter Miami CF has announced that it will commence its first-ever overseas tour to China in November, trying to broaden its footprint in a new region and begin preparations for 2024.
The club will face two Chinese Super League teams in friendly matches, first against Qingdao Hainiu F.C. on November 5 at the Wuyuan River Stadium in Haikou, China, and then against Chengdu Rongcheng on November 8 at the Phoenix Hill Sports Park in Chengdu, China. Details about the broadcast and ticketing will be released in the following weeks.
Inter Miami Chief Business Officer Xavier Asensi outlined the purpose of the team heading to China and the impact it will have on the club.
“We’re very excited to continue to expand our Club’s global reach, bringing our team to play in front of incredible fans across the globe,” he said via media release.
“This is a special opportunity to share the passion as we reach new audiences and put ourselves on display in new places, and we’re looking forward to beginning this adventure.”
Inter Miami will kick off the tour against Qingdao Hainiu F.C. of the Chinese Super League at Wuyuan River Stadium in Haikou, China. The Chinese team, created in 1990, is now coached by Spanish coach Antonio Carreo and has been a regular member of China’s top flight since 1997, without being relegated in 26 years.
Inter Miami’s next destination will be at Chengdu Rongcheng’s Phoenix Hill Sports Park, which accommodates over 60,000 people. Chengdu Rongcheng was created in 2018, around the same time as Inter Miami.
Chengdu Rongcheng debuted in the country’s fourth level – the team went on to gain promotion in three of its first four seasons, eventually reaching the Chinese top flight. Last season, its debut in the top flight, the squad maintained its rising trend, placing fifth out of 18 teams. The squad is now sixth in the Chinese Super League rankings and has fresh new cutting-edge facilities.
